In 1967, seventeen-year-old Joni Eareckson suffered a diving accident that left her permanently paralyzed from the shoulders down. Through writing, speaking, painting, and encouraging families affected by disability, He demonstrated that faithful service does not depend upon physical ability but upon willing hearts surrendered to Him. The Lord transformed personal suffering into a testimony of His grace, reminding countless believers that His purposes are always wiser than our own.
🌟 Wisdom That Lives for Christ
The truth Joni learned became the truth she lived. Rather than defining herself by limitation, she continually pointed others to the sufficiency of Christ. Through the ministry of Joni and Friends, God has encouraged churches to serve people with disabilities while proclaiming the gospel throughout many nations. Her life demonstrates that biblical wisdom is not escaping hardship but faithfully obeying God within it. Though physical challenges remained, God’s grace continued to sustain her, producing perseverance, compassion, humility, and enduring hope. God never promises that every trial will disappear, but He does promise His faithful presence (Isaiah 41:10).
