The tavern keeper himself had little interest in faith. To him, religion appeared weak and irrelevant. He believed business, entertainment, and profit were far more practical pursuits.
Spiritually, his heart had become hardened.

Just as Jesus Christ cleansed the temple in Matthew 21, God cleansed hearts—and even buildings—during the revival.
