Healing through obedient trust

Exodus 15:22–27
“and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.””
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭15‬:‭26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Obedience opens the door through which God’s healing love enters.”

In 1947, two years after surviving the Ravensbrück concentration camp, Corrie ten Boom was speaking at a church in Munich, Germany about God’s healing power. After the meeting, a former Nazi guard from her camp approached her. The man stretched out his hand, saying, “Fraulein, will you forgive me?”

Israel had just walked out of the Red Sea, drenched in victory yet still learning how to trust the God who saved them. Only three days into the wilderness, their joy dried up just as quickly as their water supply. At Marah, the only water available was bitter and undrinkable. Their frustration rose, complaints grew louder, and Moses cried out to the Lord.

God showed Moses a tree, a simple piece of wood that turned bitter water sweet. But the miracle came with a message.

God’s words, “I will put none of the diseases upon you which I brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you,” reveal that obedience is not about control—it is about covering.

The Hebrew word sīm (“put/send”) shows that God allowed afflictions to fall on Egypt as the consequence of their rebellion. And the word machalāh (“disease”) speaks of all forms of brokenness—physical, emotional, and spiritual. But then God introduces His name Yahweh-Rapha, the One who restores, mends, repairs, and makes whole.

Obedience places us under the healing work of Yahweh-Rapha.
Disobedience moves us outside the shelter of His protection.

Many of God’s laws for Israel were practical health laws—clean water, quarantine, washing, dietary boundaries—and obedience preserved them from disease. But the deeper truth is this:

A life aligned with God is a life free from unnecessary wounds.
When we resist God, we step into anxiety, stress, regret, and harmful habits.
When we obey Him, we step into peace, clarity, and emotional wholeness.

Obedience is not about “earning healing”—it is about remaining where God’s healing flows.

End of the story :

Corrie later wrote that her whole body froze. Memories of suffering flooded her mind. She knew that forgiving this man was impossible in her own strength. But she felt the Holy Spirit whisper, “Give Me your hand.” In obedience, she lifted her hand. As she did, she felt a surge of God’s love flow through her—a healing she could never produce on her own.

Her obedience released a healing she had carried in wounds for years.Later Corrie wrote: “When He tells us to love our enemies, He gives along with the command, the love itself.”

Her life reminds us that healing flows through obedience, even when the step God asks us to take feels impossible.

As we walk with God, we must remember that obedience is our protection, not our punishment. When we listen to His voice, follow His Word, and surrender our ways to Him, we place ourselves under the covering of His healing presence.

We avoid the “diseases of Egypt”—the bitterness of stubbornness, the stress of self-dependence, the wounds of sin, the sickness of unforgiveness—not because we are strong, but because we stay close to the God who heals us.

We obey, not perfectly, but wholeheartedly.

And as we obey, we position ourselves for God’s healing to restore our bodies, hearts, minds, and relationships.

🙏  Prayer:

Father, teach us to obey Your voice with trust-filled hearts.Help us stay under Your covering, walk in Your ways, and receive the healing You desire for us.Heal our minds, bodies, and relationships as we follow You in faith. You are Yahweh-Rapha, our Healer.Amen.
