WHY DO PESTILENCE COME IN OUR LIFE ? (PART 2)

PART 2: Pestilence/Calamities to accomplish God’s righteous purposes on earth

A) Establish man’s righteousness (Job 2 )

Job was blameless, upright , one  who feared God and shunned evil. Satan said that God had made a  wall of protection all around him  and his house  ( including his family),his  possessions. Satan challenges the  righteous of Job. He goes on to  suggest that if everything is taken away from Job, Job would  curse God. God gives Satan  permission to try Job’s faith by  stripping him of his wealth , his  family and finally his health. Bible tells us that “ Job did not sin with his lips” ( Job 2:10 )

We learn the following

a) God knows all. His decision is  final. God is the author of all  power of the universe.

b) When deep suffering threatens  the foundation of faith, as was the  case with Job, an assault on our  faith can destroy us unless we are firmly rooted in God’s truth.

c) In times of tragedy,we face the  temptation of blaming God  instead we should live in humility  and wait for God to reveal Himself and His purposes.

d) The struggle of faith is a  personal one.

B) Works of God might be  displayed (John 9)

Jesus passed by a man who was  blind from birth.The disciples  showed no interest in helping the man, but in discussing the cause  for his condition.  Jesus said that the man’s  blindness was not caused by some specific sin committed  by the man or  his parents.  (John 9: 2–3 )

1) Even the man’s physical  disability was in the plan of God so that the works of God should be  revealed in him.

C)  God may be glorified through it ( John 11)

Lazarus of Bethany was sick. Jesus said that this sickness is not unto  death, but for the glory of God,  that the Son of God may be  glorified through it.”  When Jesus heard that Lazarus  was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was.  Lazarus died. So when Jesus came, He found that he had already  been in the tomb four days.Jesus  prays at the tomb of Lazarus and raises Lazarus from the dead.

1. Sickness to bring glory to the  Lord.

Lazarus died due to his sickness  but Jesus raised him up and many who came to join in the sorrow of  the grieving sisters believed in  Jesus

2. Jesus is the resurrection and the  life. He who believes in Me,  though he may die, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.

D) Discipline of the Lord to the  sons whom He loves  (Hebrews 12:5–11, Psalm 119:67, 71, 75)

1. God’s chastisement is for our  good

2. God’s chastisement is for the  purpose that we may share His  holiness

3. God’s chastisement is that we  yield peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by  it

4. God’s afflictions corrects us to  return from astray path  

5. God’s afflictions helps us to learn to keep Your Word and statutes

We learn the following when  pestilence/calamities comes to  establish God’s righteous  purposes.
