PART 3 :  Pestilence as a sign  that described the end times

Jesus describes the Signs of the  Times and the End of the Age to  His disciples.

Luke 21 : 7-18 

The Signs of the Times and the  End of the Age

7 So they asked Him, saying,  “Teacher, but when will these  things be? And what sign will  there be when these things are  about to  take place?”

8 And He said: “Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will  come in My name, saying,  ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time has  drawn near. ’ Therefore do not go after them.  9 But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified;  for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come  immediately.”

10 Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and  kingdom against kingdom. 11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and  pestilences; and there will be  fearful sights and great signs from heaven. 12 But before all these  things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and  prisons. You will be brought  before kings and rulers for My  name’s sake. 13 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for  testimony. 14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; 15 for I will give you a mouth and  wisdom which all your  adversaries will not be able to  contradict or resist. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents and  brothers, relatives and friends;  and they will put some of you to  death. 17 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. 18 But not a hair of your head shall be lost. 19 By your patience possess your  souls.

The Destruction of Jerusalem

20 “But when you see Jerusalem  surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to  the mountains, let those who are  in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country  enter her. 22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things  which are written may be fulfilled. 23 But woe to those who are  pregnant and to those who are  nursing babies in those days! For  there will be great distress in the  land and wrath upon this people.  24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away  captive into all nations. And  Jerusalem will be trampled by  Gentiles until the times of the  Gentiles are fulfilled.

The Coming of the Son of Man

25 “And there will be signs in the  sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of  nations, with perplexity, the sea  and the waves roaring; 26 men’s  hearts failing them from fear and  the expectation of those things  which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the  Son of Man coming in a cloud  with power and great glory.  28 Now when these things begin  to happen, look up and lift up  your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

Revelation 6: 7-8 

Fourth Seal: Widespread Death  on Earth

7 When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth  living creature saying, “Come and see.” 8 So I looked, and behold, a  pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and  Hades followed with him. And  power was given to them over a  fourth of the earth, to kill with  sword, with hunger, with death,  and by the beasts of the earth.

The Lord has warned us  beforehand , so we should be alert and prepare ourselves.

1. Take heed and do not be  deceived ( Matthew 24: 4)

And Jesus answered and said to  them: “Take heed that no one  deceives you. 

2. Keep commandments to  persevere ( Revelation 3 : 10 )

Because you have kept My  command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial  which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on  the earth. 

3. Watch therefore, and pray  always ( Luke 21: 36)

Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will  come to pass, and to stand before  the Son of Man.”

4. Be in holy conduct and  godliness to be prepared for the Day of the Lord (2 Peter 3:10-12) 

10 But the day of the Lord will  come as a thief in the night, in  which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the  elements will melt with fervent  heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.  11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy  conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of  the day of God, because of which  the heavens will be dissolved,  being on fire, and the elements  will melt with fervent heat? 

PART 3 :  Pestilence as a sign  that described the end times

1. Take heed and do not be  deceived ( Matthew 24: 4). 
2. Keep commandments to  persevere ( Revelation 3 : 10 )
3. Watch therefore, and pray  always ( Luke 21: 36)
4. Be in holy conduct and  godliness to be prepared for  the Day of the Lord  (2 Peter 3:10-12) 

Let us examine our life in times ofcalamities/pestilence and prepare ourselves  to listen from our Saviour “Well  done, good and faithful servant!

PART 1: Pestilence as a sign of  God’s judgment on a nation or a group of people

1. Do not commit adultery (Matt 5:27-28)
2. Let your thoughts be noble,  right ,pure, lovely, admirable,  excellent or praiseworthy.(Phil 4:8)
3. Put off your former corrupt  conduct (Eph 4:22-24)
4. Do not commit violence .  Whoever slaps you on your  right cheek, turn the other to  him also (Matt 5: 38,39)
5. God is sovereign over all.  (Colossians 1:16-18) 
6. Man should not act prideful so as to display that he controls  world and can achieve all.  (James 4:14)
7. Honor God’s anointed  (Psalm 105:15) 
8. Be a vessel ready to lead people to the atonement made by  Jesus (Romans 5:11)
9. Do not allow anything to be idol in your life to steal God’s place. Do not be lovers of yourselves  (2 Timothy 3:1-2) 

PART 2:  Pestilence to  accomplish God’s righteous  purposes on earth

1. God knows all. His decision is final. God is the author of all  power of the universe.
2. When deep suffering  threatens the foundation of  faith, as was the case with Job, an assault on our faith can  destroy us unless we are  firmly rooted in God’s truth.
3. In times of tragedy,we face the temptation of blaming God  instead we should live in  humility and wait for God to  reveal Himself and His  purposes.
4. The struggle of faith is a  personal one.
5. Even man’s physical disability was in the plan of God so that  the works of God should be  revealed in him.
6. Sickness to bring glory to the  Lord.
7. Jesus is the resurrection and  the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall  live. And whoever lives and  believes in Me shall never die.
8. God’s chastisement is for our  good
9. God’s chastisement is for the  purpose that we may share  His holiness 
10. God’s chastisement is that we yield peaceful fruit of  righteousness to those who  have been trained by it
11. God’s afflictions corrects us to return from astray path  
12. God’s afflictions helps us to  learn to keep Your Word and  statutes

PART 3 :  Pestilence as a sign  that described the end times

1. We should always conduct self examination and be ready for  the end times.
2. Take heed and do not be  deceived ( Matthew 24: 4). 
3. Keep commandments to  persevere ( Revelation 3 : 10 )
4. Watch therefore, and pray  always ( Luke 21: 36)
