🌿 When Life Doesn’t Make Sense
Life often brings painful seasons that leave us asking, “Why would God allow this?” Betrayal, disappointment, or unanswered prayers can tempt us to doubt His goodness. Joseph also faced years of confusion before seeing God’s greater purpose. His journey teaches us that understanding often grows slowly as we trust the Lord through life’s hardest moments.
📜 From the Pit to God’s Purpose
Joseph, the beloved son of Jacob, was hated by his brothers because of their jealousy and the dreams God had given him. They sold him into slavery, and he was taken to Egypt. Though faithful in Potiphar’s house, Joseph was falsely accused and imprisoned. Yet the Lord remained with him, granting wisdom to interpret dreams. In God’s perfect timing, Pharaoh appointed Joseph as governor over Egypt to prepare for a coming famine.
Years later, Joseph’s brothers stood before him seeking food, unaware of his identity. Rather than taking revenge, Joseph forgave them and declared, “Ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good” (Genesis 50:20). His story reveals God’s sovereign hand working through suffering to preserve many lives and fulfill His covenant purposes. What seemed like tragedy became the pathway for God’s redemptive plan.

Joseph learned that God rules over every circumstance, even when life appears unfair. The Lord’s promises remain true despite painful delays.

Years of testing transformed Joseph’s perspective. Looking back, he recognized that every hardship had prepared him for God’s greater mission. True understanding sees God’s faithfulness where human eyes once saw only suffering.
👣 WISDOM — Choosing Forgiveness
Joseph applied this understanding by forgiving his brothers, serving faithfully wherever God placed him, and trusting God’s purpose above personal revenge. Wisdom obeys God even before every question is answered, believing His plans are always good.
🌍 A Life That Reflected This Truth
In 1967, Joni Eareckson Tada became paralyzed after a diving accident at age seventeen. The loss of physical independence brought deep questions and intense suffering. Through years of studying Scripture, she came to understand that God’s sovereignty was not absent in her pain but present within it. Rather than allowing bitterness to rule her heart, she trusted Christ and devoted her life to encouraging people with disabilities, proclaiming the gospel worldwide, and reminding believers that God’s grace is sufficient.
Her suffering became a platform for hope, compassion, and faithful ministry. Like Joseph, she discovered that God can transform seasons of pain into opportunities for His glory and the blessing of countless lives.
