Samuel Morris, once known as Prince Kaboo of Liberia, discovered this truth in remarkable ways. His journey reveals how God leads His children from knowing His truth, to understanding His purposes, and finally to living with Christlike wisdom.
🌍 A Prince Learns God’s Truth
Samuel Morris was born into a royal family in nineteenth-century Liberia. His early life promised honor and influence, but conflict between local tribes led to his capture. During his captivity, God used difficult circumstances to prepare his heart. Samuel later encountered Christians whose kindness, prayers, and faithful witness introduced him to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through Scripture and the testimony of believers, he learned that God’s grace is offered freely to all who trust Christ, regardless of earthly position.
The truth God impressed upon him was simple yet life-changing: true greatness comes through humble faith, not human status. As Samuel embraced Christ, his identity shifted from earthly royalty to being a child of God, founded upon God’s unchanging grace rather than worldly privilege.
✨ God Deepens His Understanding
God did not stop with teaching Samuel the truth; He patiently helped him understand it. Leaving Liberia, Samuel eventually traveled to the United States, where his sincere faith deeply encouraged many Christians. Although he had little formal education and faced cultural differences, he displayed remarkable trust in God’s care. Those around him consistently noticed his humility, joyful spirit, and eagerness to learn the Scriptures. Trials that could have produced bitterness instead strengthened his dependence upon the Lord. Like Paul, Samuel discovered that God’s strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). His childlike confidence reminded others that spiritual maturity is measured not by worldly achievements but by wholehearted reliance on Christ. Through God’s providence, faithful friendships, and daily obedience, Samuel came to understand that humility is not weakness; it is joyful submission to God’s will. His life reflected Proverbs 3:5–6, trusting the Lord rather than leaning upon human understanding.
🌿 Wisdom Lived Daily
Samuel faithfully applied what God had taught him. He willingly laid aside any claim to earthly honor and chose a life marked by humility, gratitude, and loving service. Though his earthly life ended at a young age, his quiet faith influenced students, pastors, and missionaries who witnessed God’s transforming work in him. Unlike Nabal, whose pride blinded him to God’s ways (1 Samuel 25), Samuel demonstrated biblical wisdom by walking humbly before the Lord. His enduring testimony reminds believers that a surrendered life allows Christ’s grace to shine far beyond personal accomplishments.

Samuel Morris reminds us that God values humble hearts above earthly success. The Lord often uses suffering, faithful believers, and ordinary circumstances to teach His children lasting truth (Romans 8:28). We are called to humble ourselves before God (1 Peter 5:6), trusting His wisdom rather than our own importance. Every act of genuine humility points us to Jesus Christ, who “made himself of no reputation” (Philippians 2:7–8, KJV) so that sinners might receive eternal life through His saving grace.
