📖 Learning to Abide in Christ
Amy Carmichael (1867–1951) grew up in Ireland in a Christian home where Scripture shaped her early faith. After serving in Japan and Ceylon, God led her to India in 1895. There she encountered children trapped in exploitation through the temple system and sensed God’s call to provide them with a safe home. The ministry demanded immense physical, emotional, and spiritual strength. Amy often faced illness, financial uncertainty, cultural challenges, and criticism. Yet from the beginning, God was teaching her a foundational truth: lasting ministry depends on abiding in Christ rather than human determination.
Through regular Bible reading, prayer, and meditation, she learned that every act of service must flow from communion with the Lord. Knowledge of God’s Word became the foundation upon which her ministry would stand.

Scripture continually renewed her perspective when burdens seemed overwhelming. God’s providence sustained the Dohnavur Fellowship despite difficulties, demonstrating that His work never depends solely on human strength. Through suffering, Amy discovered that true understanding grows as believers trust God’s wisdom, submit to His timing, and faithfully walk with Him one day at a time.

The wisdom God formed in Amy’s life became evident through humble perseverance. Although physical weakness limited her, she continued encouraging believers through letters, books, prayer, and the ministry God had established.
