📖Exodus 13:19 – “Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, ‘God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones with you from here.’”
“The bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem.” — Joshua 24:32
Joseph lived as a powerful ruler in Egypt, yet his heart remained in God’s promised land. Even in death, he refused to be defined by Egypt’s success or comfort. His final wish—to have his bones carried to Canaan—was a declaration of faith that God’s promises are more real than present circumstances.
For more than 400 years, Joseph’s bones waited in Egypt while generations of Israelites suffered in slavery. But when God delivered His people, His promise was fulfilled.
Joseph’s life teaches us that genuine faith looks beyond today. It clings to God’s word even when fulfillment seems delayed. True faith is not just about living for God, but also leaving a testimony that continues to speak after we’re gone.
“By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions concerning the burial of his bones.” — Hebrews 11:22
Question to ponder upon ::
• Am I living with a faith that trusts God even when I may not see the results?
• Do I place my hope in earthly “Egypt’s”—comfort, success, recognition—or in the eternal promises of God?
• How can my life today leave a spiritual legacy that points others to God’s faithfulness?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Joseph—who trusted You beyond his lifetime. Help me to live with that same faith, confident in Your promises even when I don’t see them fulfilled yet. Teach me to hold loosely to the world and cling tightly to You. May my life and legacy draw others to trust in Your unfailing word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
